It's About You, Gerry
In an astonishingly vulgar display of anti-morality, the IRA have offered to shoot those that it has identified as being involved in the death of Robert McCartney. His family, understandibly, to right-thinking people at least, have declined the offer.
Anthony Murnane was interviewing Gerry Adams on RTE 2 last night and made the fatal mistake of mentioning the British governement in the list of critics of the IRA's latest innovation - charity shootings. It was like watching a juke-box. Anthony put in his 50 cent, Gerry lit up and the well worn Sinn Fein record dropped under the stylus: "Is that that same British Government that [insert preferred repressed nation under British bloodthirsty tyranny cliche here]. Another 45 seconds of bubblegum propaganda.
We're not buying your "damned if we talk to the IRA, damned if we don't" sympathy plea Gerry. You complain about spin, Gerry; your party's view that this statement is a positive step is positively gyroscopic. It's time to a call a spade, a spade. Offering to kill people is just wrong, Gerry.
It's feeble -minded to think we'll believe otherwise.
